| Experiment One |
I wanted to experiment with trying out different parts of the make-up and where I could place the prosthetic pieces on the face.
Products:
- Firstly I started with the wound on the forehead where in a bowl I mixed Latex and oats together, I then used a spatula to mix it up and put it on the forehead. Once on the forehead I then used a sponge to layer latex over the area where I placed the oats to make sure it blends with the skin and holds on the face.
- While the latex and oats were drying I started on the nose area when I used a sponge to create a layer of latex over the nose, I then Ripped a piece of tissue off making sure the edges were all torn and placed it over the latex and then applied another layer of latex on top.
- While this was drying I went back to the oats on the forehead and then used my supra colour palette to apply colour to the area. I started with black, white and green on the area and then added the bloody scab which is like a thick blood paste that sets hard and then I added runny blood over the top and for it to drip down the face slightly.
- For the nose I added the same colour as the tissue makes the skin bumpy and dry and the colour give the off-skin colour effect.
Attempt and Fail:
I wanted to practise making and using gelatine on the face so I went to Asda and bought bakery gelatine which it works the same. I got a tub out and poured a small amount of hot (not boiling) water and then slowly started adding the gelatine to the mix and stiring it in. On the package it said if the granules haven't melted in just heat it up for a little bit until they dissolve completely in. After it all had dissolved I thought the gelatine would be quite thick (paste like) because I put half amount of water in or maybe less however it was super runny and wasn't setting at all. I tried applying it to the face and it just literlly just dripping off the face and wasn't building up at all. I evenutlly stopped trying and though I will go back to Asda and buy the other forms of gelatine to see how they work and test them before applying to the face.

Creating the look:
- Firstly I started with the latex and oats again on the head just so I got another try at creating it. I made sure I applied another layer of latex over the top so it all sticks to the forehead and the lump blend into the head.
- I then started with the gelatine on the side of the face, I started on the cheek and started building it up as the gelatine became thicker and started drying. I then used a hairdryer on cool (as you don't want to melt it again) to dry the product and latex area.
- Once the side of the face had all the base prosthetics I started applying the surpa colour palette paint to the face. When researching how to create look like this I found a video clip on Youtube of the make-up artist from the walking dead creating a look. After applying the gelatine, latex and oats he used a mix of colour and oil on the face to make it blend into the skin and give even thin coverage. I tried this myself mixing the colour and oil and it worked really well on the skin.
- Once the whole face was coloured which I used white and green to make the skin look ill I then powdered the face.
- Next I used a spatula and picked the gelatine on the cheek to create creators in the skin and started filling it in with the blood paste and around the oats. I then used a liquid blood and started dripping it down the face and putting random splashes of blood over the face.
I think the gelatine went much better this time when pre making the mix and heating it up. The hairdryer made the process much faster as I dried the product much quicker. I was much happier with how this look came out and I think the over coverage looked good. I really liked the lumpy skin effect with oats and the gelatine makes the skin much more bumpy and uneven. I liked pulling away at the gelatine and filling it in with blood as it looked much more realistic. I think I need to tone down on the green supra colour on the face as I only want a hint of green not for his face to look completely green.
