Introduction to my Quentin

How Quentin fits into the series is that he is a walker. At a point in the series when everyone is living inside Alexandria walls, during the evening someone was closing the gate and it didn’t close properly and a walker got into the premises. Its was dark and everyone was in there houses sleeping when Quentin approaches Claudia’s door. Claudia instantly hears a noise and opens the door to the zombie, she is completely delusional and psychotic and thinks the zombie is Quentin. She then lets him in and realises he is grabbing at her and trying to bite her however she thinks its in a playful way and wants to make sure he can’t ever leave her again so she ties the zombie up and no-one knows she keeping him there.

Obviously the make-up is really advanced and the audience is in awe of how realistic it looks. However they never develop a bond with a zombie because they are usually killed off very quick. He’ll be seen as more of a human introducing a different element to the series. 

The setting has been really influential for building up Quentin as an individual character. The constraints given have really been explored and Quentin has come out as a character in his own. As Quentin is a walker his look is very detailed and I will be needing a lot of prosthetic products to create the look and a lot of special effects to create this particular character. The styling will be inspired by a collaboration of different zombie looks from the walking dead. I can then gather ideas of what effect Quentin should have on his face and consider his clothing and hair.

I have chosen taste as my key word because when going from being a human and then turning into a zombie your mind has been completely wiped and all you’re thinking about is eating human flesh and blood. Their craving for it is so strong they can smell the difference between a human and a walker. Their taste and craving is the only thing still alive in them as their brain is overtaken by the virus. 

The key word taste inspired me to look into other films that have the same cravings as zombies. Popular films with this sort of context is films like Dracula or mainly any vampire films. Vampires also have a strong craving for blood the only difference is they don’t eat the rest of the human. However the human does then turn into one of them. 

His character motivation as a zombie is purely to eat Claudia however she sees this in a completely different way. My character will be styled as a zombie, with prosthetic pieces on the face, light blue/yellow eyes that are blood shot, greasy hair, dirty and covered in blood. The teeth would be rotten and decaying and his clothes torn up.

I will need to start planning the prosthetic pieces for the face and start planning garments, and allocating all the required equipment and products.

Quentin Character Mood board and Colour Palette 

In the mood board I created for my Quentin character I chose a variety of images that I thought would firstly portray how I think of what Quentin will look like. All of the photos I chose are photographs of zombies that were created in the actual walking dead. Since I want to source photos to create the look I mainly looked into previous characters or zombies that were shown in the series. As each zombie is created individual the looks for them are completely different, I want Quentin to be a bit cut up on the face with blood, deep eyes and a deathly skin colour, Quenin isnt an old zombie so he wont be rotting too much as some of the make-up is very extreme. The images I have collaged together is inspiration for his overall look. As this is my first take on what he will look like, I will need to create more face charts and an overall look for him to narrow my idea down.

Make-up Face Chart

This is my first Face chart for Quentin, I created this on my basic idea of what I want him to look like. I want prosthetics on the face where skin will be coming off and covered in blood. I want scratches over the face and bloody cracked lips. I want his skin colour to be light with a tint of green/grey. The eyebrows hardly visible, the eyes bloodshot and contacts in the eyes to change the colour and the eye sockets deep and contoured.  The hair I want messy and greasy with either blood or dirt in it. Overall he need to be slightly dirty as he is living outside and he is slowly decomposing.
